Greetings Every One! The work we are doing could not continue without you. We are very grateful for your support and help. Every single prayer and donation is appreciated more than you can know. Thank you so very much for your support. A note from Rutury Que Tuma Aku. Greetings Dear Friends! Tatewari, Grandfather Spirit. We open our hearts to your healing which brings us wisdom and knowledge from all corners of the Universe. Happy New Year and many new beginnings to everyone! May all your resolutions be attainable as you journey in life. At Wirikuta Springs we are still feeling the effects of Winter Solstice with its beautiful blessings, and we carried the energy of the Winter Solstice forward to merge with our New Year’s ceremony to support balance and harmony in our world. We lit the sacred fire and kept it burning 24 hours for 4 nights in a row. The feeling was magical on many levels as we aligned ourselves with the four elements and synchronized our fire ceremony with the fire that kept burning in our village with our Wixarika Elders. It is a tradition in our culture to remain steadfast during ritual ceremonies around the fire, no matter the circumstances. People are assigned to be guardians of the sacred fire and that responsibility is to be taken seriously as the community depends on the person. We come together to support one another with the understanding that these kind of ritual ceremonies are very sacred and we all benefit with mutual support as a community. At our New Year’s ceremony participants took turns to protect and attend to the sacred fire. For some people it was hard to stay awake and sit outside with the snow and cold weather, yet it was also sweet to be in communion with Nature and be warmed by the fire in the beautiful snow. Thank you everyone and especially to Matthew Young for your commitment and vigilance as the fire keeper for our ceremony. In my Huichol Wixarika culture every New Year’s ceremony honors our Earth and everything that is in it. Our credo is that the more we acknowledge, appreciate, and cultivate what our Mother Earth has given us, in turn she reciprocates our thoughts, prayers and intentions. Protecting and respecting our Mother Earth has always been very important to us. We know she is alive and needs our nourishment so she can continue to sustain us for many years to come, and we see her beauty reflected in the smiles of innocent children. We were so blessed to have so many young ones at our New Year’s ceremony! I know that some of them were disappointed that because of the snow we were not able to put luminarias around the whole property but they nevertheless enthusiastically participated in our improvised alternate plans. In our candle luminaria ceremony we first make one luminaria representing ourselves as we are the source light for many others, we then proceed to make more for our loved ones by drawing symbols and/or writing names on the bags. We honor those who may or may not still be in touch with us, or who have made their transition, or anyone who needs a prayer, a light, to support their journey, no matter where in the world they may reside. If you are reading this newsletter you were included in our New Year’s ceremony because you matter to us and you are important to this world. When all the candles are lit you can see and feel everyone’s energy, and when you walk in between the candles you can truly sense the bridge between us and the spirit realm. It is a truly one of kind experience and a gift from beyond. I am honored to be given the permission by my Wixarika Elders to share this and many more ceremonies with all of you. With humble gratitude in my heart I say thank you for having an interest in my Wixarika culture. As my Wixarika tribe says, the world belongs to all of us. Our prayers, thoughts and actions affect our world, so let’s support each other with our best efforts and continue our dance of life in our ceremonies for peace and harmony. PamPaDios Looking forward to our next ceremony Love and Blessings Rutury Some Pictures from the New Year Ceremony Owl in the snow Rutury by the fire Stream Path It was cozy by the fire, and so beautiful with the surrounding snow Everyone pitched in to chip the ice away when the cars slid down the driveway and couldn’t get out! The Center didn’t want people to leave…but it was all good after this group effort and nobody missed their flights. A note from Nahwi This time of year is usually very hard for me. I tend to isolate myself while others enjoy gathering together for Christmas or whatever holiday name you give your celebration. Then we go on to New Year. New Year is the time of reflection for me more than any other time of year. What have I done in this pass year? Why did I do these things? How do I feel about them? So many questions and not always…answers. Then I go to a place that is not really healthy. I start being disappointed in myself. Why on earth can’t I reach the spot where I feel like I have accomplished something? I feel like despite what all I do, I just feel like I am waiting for “it” to happen. And once again, somehow, some way I missed the boat…again. I never even saw it at the dock! But this year I am coming to a different realization. Those goals were never mine…they were what I thought I should be reaching for. They are what I was told I needed to reach for. I do not have to prove myself. I am...simply that “I am” and that is enough. I am who I am and that person does try to live a loving, caring, kind life. Of course I get angry and can be short (pun not intended). But the important part is I am recognizing it when it is happening and, well, sometimes that is who I am. When I reach into myself in a curious way, like a child’s curiosity, I can see that I am stronger and happier when I am in tune with my own values. It is then that I am aware that I am still becoming; and that I will always be in the state of becoming! It could be worse!
