A note from Rutury:

Que Tuma Aku. Greetings Dear Friends!

I am happy to tell you that our opening ceremony at Wirikuta Springs Retreat Center on Sunday June 4th was well received by local people, and we could sense that the land, the trees, and all the sacred paths throughout the property were awakened from a profound sleep. I say awakened because in the Wixarika culture when a medicine person makes her transition her house and all the sacred places that she walked also goes dormant, and a ceremony is performed when the grief has reached its proper place. Having people here for the New Year’s Ceremony was the beginning of this awakening, and yesterday it felt like a clear bell rang to call people back to the land again, to say we are ready to welcome them! I am excited that Wirikuta Springs can now host our first week long Pilgrimage in July. It will be a journey where the participants will learn about and experience what ceremonies are like in the Wixarika culture. It is also an opportunity for you to learn about yourselves in deeper ways than you thought possible, to step out of your usual patterns of behavior and routines and perspectives, and to shake out the cobwebs in the corners of your minds and bodies. I will work hands on with every participant, and I will be focused on ways to encourage each person to shift what needs to be moved and to learn how to integrate what I have to offer them into their every day lives. We have a few spots left so if you are interested please contact Nahwi at nahwi@earthlink.net.

On another note, in May we had the opportunity to travel and conduct a healing drumming ceremony in Fountain Valley, CA. where we were hosted by Kris (Yulama) and her husband Glenn. I was happy to see some people that I had not seen for years and of course meeting new people is always an incredible feeling. Organizing a blessing ceremony is a collaboration of many wonderful people, and I personally want to thank everyone that made it possible for us to be there. We hope to come back soon again.

Looking forward to our next ceremony
Love and Blessings

A note from Nahwi:

Well, Kamu asked me if I was going to write about Prayers AGAIN for the newsletter….I told him I could write about Knitting but that was not quite the subject that would work for the Indios Huichol Newsletter….but then…..now that I am thinking of it…I believe I can squeeze a little knitting in.
When we have something in our lives that make our souls sing; that give us a connection to ourselves, to others, something that makes us pause and honor beings that have helped to facilitate this doing…well I do indeed think I can make knitting work for this note.

When a hobby, a job, a lesson, or a passion can be turned into Ceremony and Prayer I think that just may be us doing our design.
When I knit, spin yarn or embroider I am connected to something so deep in me that must be brought to the light of day.  I have always been one of those odd people who put prayers into their stitches when I am making or repairing pieces for others, and yes now for myself, and that makes it a Ceremony. I think of the sheep or alpaca that has offered their fleece for my yarn, I think of the pattern and why it is speaking to me. I think of the person who will receive it and what they may need in their life. I think about how much I care about this person and put that in my work.

This can be done with cooking, woodwork, gardening, caring for a child or an elder, even house work…really  we can turn just about anything we do into Ceremony if we look at the whole picture and become mindful of all of the components involved.
All that we do can become more by intention.

So if you see me or have seen me knitting at a workshop….well, you get the idea.

Blessing Ceremony at Wirikuta Springs

6/5/2017

What a wonderful Ceremony we had, and it is because of each and every person who participated.

We at Indios Huichol, Rutury, Anaya and Nahwi, are so grateful for the loving hearts that joined us at Wirikuta Springs yesterday afternoon.

We were so happy and excited to open the center after more than 5 years of it being closed.  The land is happy to have new feet on it, new eyes seeing it, and new hearts touching it. As well as the well known feet, eyes and hearts returning to it.

It now really does feel like new beginnings......Thank you each and every one!
