Greetings dear friends!! “We the Wixarika Elders are stepping out of our comfort zone and are sending chosen messengers into the world to encourage our fellow sisters and brothers. We are inviting them to join our circle of ceremonies, pilgrimages and prayers, and take a journey into the spiritual realm. Keep in mind that that this is not a solution to all of your challenges and issues, rather it is a way of beginning to start reclaiming your faith and your roots, and it is always about you and your own process, as each one of us has a very unique path in life. Our Earth is out of balance and it is up to us the human tribe to stabilize her, but before we can truly help anyone or anything, we need to be healthy ourselves. We come together and do ceremonies with prayers, and to do this you don't have to belong to a group or particular religion. You can have your own practice from the comfort of your own home, or if you are inspired to go into nature in the day or night, have a ceremony in the company of all living things. We must remember to not only pray or do ceremonies when we are desperate or in great need. It is good to pray unconditionally, and even if we don't have all that we believe is necessary or desirable in life, let us be grateful for the gifts we do have, our families, friends and above all our magnificent Mother Earth.” -Words by an Elder female of my village. I am sharing with you the Elder woman’s message, and want to add few more thoughts. You don't have to believe what the Wixarika Elder woman is saying, but just take a moment and look around you and at the same time listen and notice carefully what people are doing and saying. All too often people feel the need to outdo each other, to be the first, the only, the best, the winner. People want to be known for what they possess instead of what they do to help our earth and each other. I am aware that we all live in a world where success is measured by accomplishments and we all want to be acknowledged. In the midst of all that we can still be mindful and practice what our solar system has been teaching for thousands of years. We can all shine together, maintaining a powerful inner strength while being aware and respectful of others as we move in different ways on our different paths. Prayers and ceremonies have been the foundation for many cultures and it is no different for each one of us. If we really want peace in the world we must begin with ourselves and overcome obstacles that have been blocking us for many years. When done with an open heart and mind and no specific expectations, prayers and ceremonies can alleviate stress, take us away from our daily challenges, and open up a world of possibilities. Many of you have attended my ceremonies when I have shared the messages of the Wixarika Elders. I am deeply grateful to them for their commitment, and for how they continue to offer themselves to be our guides. They do not want anything in return or to be known in public. They want to see us carry their messages, and as always it is an unconditional gift from them to us. It has been my honor and privilege to have the opportunity to guard and protect their wisdom and knowledge, and to share it with you. Looking forward to our next ceremony. Love and blessings, Rutury A note from Nahwi: Personal Ceremony I wanted to talk a little about the importance of making time in your day for personal ceremony. You may think of it as prayer, meditation, down time….whatever it is you want to call it. But putting it off because you want to check Facebook, or feel a need to text a picture of the cat to your sister, or watch a show on TV, is a dangerous habit to get into. Why? Because all of that external distraction takes you further and further away from your healing, your peace, and your connection to your soul. I know this because I am very guilty of finding excuses to not take care of my sacred self. But I have found making this a part of my daily routine; it is easing into my life as a solid part of my life. I found for myself (because I am an early riser) that right after taking care of my 4 legged children, and turning on the coffee pot….that time is perfect. It is still dark outside and I have the quite peace of pre-dawn to allow my day to start with ceremony and prayer. I think the candle in the dark room is a part of the joy this gives me because I can connect without distraction (other than the heavenly smell of coffee brewing). I am alone with my thoughts, I am alone and creating connections through my prayers and my candles and my days are so much more meaningful. I am actually taking more and more time away from my “devices” and more time outside and connecting to the land, the sky, the water and well, I am happier. We all have a special time of the day that resonates with us. Please try to use that time for your sacred self, even 5 minutes each day can make positive changes in your life.
