Greetings dear friends!! In this note I will share with all of you some sensitive teaching of my parents. Their devotion and passion of unwritten love created a beautiful human design, and that human design is my life today. There is no day or night that goes by without my saying how grateful I am to be their son, and honestly I miss them a lot. My parents spoke many aboriginal languages and living in Mexico I imagine their lives must have been challenging as they did not know how to read or write in Spanish. My father had other ways of knowing what people were thinking and talking about, and sometimes he just pretended not to understand people’s degrading and unkind comments, choosing not to get hooked by the energy of their small mindedness and mean spirits, while affirming his belief in the potential for people to redeem themselves on the path to learning wisdom and compassion. I remember when I was in first grade in school when my parents and I traveled to town to buy things for our ceremonies. After gathering all the materials we needed the total amount was 1,600 pesos. Father did not have the exact amount so he gave the store owner 2,000 pesos and waited for the change. After a while I went up to the store owner and asked for our change back, he responded with extreme anger and told us to get out of his store or he would call the police. My father, instead of feeling vindictive or angry like the store owner, calmly proceeded to say to mother and I that we should move on to do other things. I never understood why year after year we kept coming back to buy things from this person when there were other shops around, until one occasion when we stopped by his store to get few things. The strong male who loved intimidating people with his voice and took pride in taking advantage of anyone was in a wheel chair with most of his body paralyzed. Apparently he had suffered a stroke and through his broken speech he said to my father, "are you by any chance a curandero”? (healer) With pride I responded that he was a curandero and also a traditional healer. The ill man continued to say, “Since my stroke every time I try to close my eyes I see an old Indian person that appears momentarily and disappears, and I've been asking all the indigenous people who come to my store if they are curandero. All have been afraid of my questions and no one has taken the time to talk to me until now. Please, I am asking you to do a ceremony for me and for my store and I will pay you whatever amount your fee is". My father looked at me and said, "Tell him the fee is 400 pesos". Later that day as we walked home, my father knew I was pondering what had taken place with the store owner, he said “Son what is troubling you?" Curiously I asked, “Why did you not charge him more?" My father responded. "The man created his own tower of life where he thought nothing could get to him. Now that he can’t get out of his tower he is asking for help. In my blessings for him I asked the creator to make amends to everyone that he offended and took advantage of, and when he helps and gives, it should be because it feels right not because he is expecting something in return or seeking to be noticed". That answer of my father still resonates in my soul to this day and it speaks volumes about human nature. He taught me about a way of being that we don’t experience and practice as much as we could. Indeed I am fortunate to have been taught from a very young age to respect, and know when to share the spiritual and philosophical teachings. With these words I am not saying I know it all, in fact every moment I breath in I am learning the art of sharing and appreciating life to its fullest potential. I do wish I could have been there in person. Indios Huichol is very grateful for all the help that given to make this event as special as it was. November Workshop in Mexico We are getting very excited about the upcoming Workshop in Mexico next week! This will be the first group that Rutury will be leading in Mexico and we look forward to sharing some stories and photos of this special gathering in the next newsletter. New Years Workshop  Rutury has decided to have the next New Year’s Ceremony at the Center! We are so happy to be able to host this wonderful ceremony and also celebrate the re-opening of Wirikuta Springs Retreat Center. It’s been a long time since we have been able to gather at the Center, and we are happy to be able to officially re-open the Center facilities at the New Year. Truly a time for new beginnings... Here is the schedule for the weekend- Participants are welcome to arrive any time after noon on Friday December 30th. There will be an opening celebration party on Friday December 30th from 3:00pm to 7:00pm and we will be providing food and refreshments. We will then gather the New Year’s participants at 7:30 and begin our ceremony which will end on Sunday January 1st. at noon. We hope you will consider joining us for this very special event! It has been many years since we were able to gather at the Center and the land misses your presence. This will be a joyous occasion and a wonderful way to greet the New Year. People are welcome to stay an additional night at the Center on Sunday for an additional $50 fee. The Center will be closed on Monday at noon. Please email Nahwi and let her know if you are planning on attending. The fee for the New Year’s Ceremony weekend is $250. Fee is due no later than December 20th. Please note all the rooms at the center have been filled. There are accommodations available in the surrounding area of Sedona, Cottonwood and Camp Verde. Camping spots are available at the center for those brave souls who know how to camp though cold nights. We will have more details for this Workshop as we get closer to it.
