Greetings Every One!

The work we are doing could not continue without you.  We are very grateful for your support and help.  Every single prayer and donation is appreciated more than you can know. Thank you so very much for your support.

A note from The Elders:

Que Tuma Aku. Greeting Dear Friends!!

Last month I had another opportunity to be in the presence with my Wixarika tribal Elders. As always, being among them is such a blessing and leaves me with a deeply wholesome feeling. Just a few days ago I was given permission by my tribal Elders to share with all of you the experience of a ceremony I had with them which was very vivid and very delicate. I’d also like to say to the reader that as a traditional medicine person I was not using any kind of substance to alter my consciousness, the only thing I can say for that particular day was that I was fasting and lucid.

I woke up and went to meet with the Elders in the early morning. As all of us stood in a circle the prayer and chanting began and we proceeded to sit down. Soon I was guided to lay my body in the middle of their circle facing up and they continued their prayers and chanting. Two male elders started to smoke pure organic tobacco, blowing the smoke all over my body. We use the sage, sweet grass, copal or tobacco smoke in traditional healing to help us blow dead energy away from the body, therefore making room for renewal of new tissue and growth. The smoke was strong and it lead me to drift into a deep state of mind. Soon I was in a vision and my eyes started to see what they have never seen before. I literally became this tiny particle of energy with feelings and with every blink of my eyes I could be anything and in any place. I began to see our world from a distance and also close up. Our Earth looked caught in a storm surrounded by dark clouds and my curiosities lead me to check north, south, east and west. I wanted to make sure the energies of the 4 directions were enforcing our planet. I cannot explain in plain words how I was able to do this yet it happened and it was phenomenal. My sense of touch became intuitively powerful and my relationship to solid objects took on a different sense of purpose. Something so difficult to explain in words felt so clear to me, the experience of this ceremony with the Elders was so real and profound.  When I came back to my body I was with my tribal Elders physically and spiritually. As I opened my eyes I saw one of the female elders looking down at me. Without uttering any words she invited me to follow her deep into her ceremonial eyes. She whispered in my right ear and said, "Rutury you are the bridge of many cultures, you are the healer, and you are the messenger. Receive and take all the healing from us, and share it with the human tribe in the modern world."

The entire experience felt like a few seconds but in reality was over an hour. I sat up and they continued to speak in stories and riddles, my logical mind felt scrambled. I sensed they wanted to see how much my spirit could handle. My entire body was wobbly like jello, and my logical intellect and ego were feeling very fragile. Being in the Elder's presence and being the recipient of their ceremony was truly humbling.

Before we ended our ceremony they said “Tell everyone. We the Wixarika Elders continue to pray for all humanity to rise up and put an end to violence and destruction. All humanity must stop dividing themselves and it is time to help each other as our world needs that kind of leadership. We the humans can eradicate ignorance by our good will and humanity. Only with that behavior will others follow to end any kind of discrimination.

Looking forward to being with all of you again soon.

A note from Nahwi:

I had a chance to check the progress on the Main House at Wirikuta Springs when I went out to pick up more beautiful handwork from the Wixarika (Huichol) people so that I can enter it into inventory. (You realize you’re a bit of a spreadsheet geek when you get excited about working on inventory, sigh…) Anyhow, I digress.  The changes are amazing; unfortunately photos of the inside did not show the changes well.   When they put up the sheet rock it is just white.   You don’t get perspective of the changes.  There are hallways and rooms and closets where there was just the open skeleton of the framework before.  But because the gray concrete floor is so close in color to the sheet-rock the pictures were not only boring but hard to see the details the eye sees.  However the stucco is being applied to the outside of the house and the changes are amazing.  The stucco is the natural gray color so it will look different when it is painted

As you can see there is still more to be done but is it getting its personality. We have other plans forming for the Pima House, but I will share them when they are more solidified.  Really looking forward to seeing the plans for the patio next to the Main House and Pima House coming into being!

Equinox Celebration: Service, Ceremony, and Fire!

Join us in our bi-annual celebration of the Fall Equinox, along with special guests and teachers. Read below for a description of the various family-friendly activities that will take place throughout the day. Come for one or all of our festivities!
The day will begin with mindful service--a long time tradition of The Ojai Foundation--from 10am-1pm. Click here for more information on how to prepare and what to expect.

Later in the day we will welcome Rutury, medicine person from the Huichol tribe in the Sierra Mountains of Mexico, guardian of the Wixarika traditions and ceremonies, and co-founder of Indios Huichol. Rutury will guide us in an indigenous ceremony specifically to honor the Autumn Equinox and bring healing to those who believe they may benefit from the methods that have been passed down to him.

Following our Equinox ceremony, we'll come together for a potluck supper. Bring a yummy vegetarian dish to share! Refrigerator space will be provided for those who come early.

After you enjoy some dinner, head over to the deep kiva for a fire ceremony led by longtime TOF friend, Shai Arbedilchi. Kindling the flame under the stars is the perfect symbolism for honoring the balance of light and dark. This ceremony will be an opportunity for you and your family to practice the art of letting go--surrendering to death in order to embrace rebirth. Please take some time in the days before to set your intention for this fire ceremony, to meditate on what old patterns you would like to release in order to make room for the new.

Interested in staying the night? Join our Membership Circle!
