Thank you so very much for your support. Newsletter index: Page 1: Note from Rutury Page 2: Note from Nahwi Page 2: Upcoming Events Page 6: Misc notes A note from Rutury: Que Tuma Aku. Greetings dear friends!! For the traditional Wixarika Mara-akame, or medicine person, ceremonies and rituals are absolutely essential. Ceremonies are done not only for people but also for our environment, we express our gratitude and intention to not take anything for granted. For the Mara-Akame, not doing a ceremony would be like living life with no direction or purpose. That’s why when we first awake in the early morning with silent thoughts; we proceed to thank the Creator with a ceremony. In the Wixarika culture traditional Mara-akames are cultivators and guardians of ancient history and they are also creators of a vision for well being in the present and future. When we perform an individual or group ceremony, with humble words and prayers we invoke the four elements. We ask the elements to give us strength and support and while holding that in our vision, we transcend into a deeper level where time has no relevance. My dear sister Jaichima used to describe this as “When we are in this state of mind we are in the ‘isness’. I know the word is not in a dictionary, but you get the meaning, right?” As I’ve mentioned in previous newsletters; Our rituals and ceremonies are not done to impress, nor are they a show. What transpires from the beginning to the end of a ceremony is real, and we work with many levels in the material and non-material realities. I am looking forward to being in Southern California in May to do a Blessing Ceremony weekend with new and old friends. We are going to host the local community in Arizona here at Wirikuta Springs for a drumming ceremony in early June, and later in June I will be in Northern California where I will be doing individual sessions. I look forward to any chance I have to connect with anyone who is sincere about their desire to go deeper with their healing and knowledge, and I am blessed to be able to offer them my perspective on their journey. In July of this year we will have a weeklong pilgrimage at Wirikuta Springs Retreat Center. Through chants, prayers, and a fire watch, participants will have an opportunity to experience ancient ceremonies similar to the ones we have in the Wixarika culture. To be on a spiritual pilgrimage we believe it is a privilege as we honor ourselves and our environment. It is also my honor to be able to work with people and share what I believe is powerful tools toward gaining a deeper understanding of ourselves and the magnificent world we all live in. Looking forward to our next ceremony; Love and blessings Rutury A note from Nahwi: I was reviewing my notes that I write after I have a session with Rutury. This one was from a particularly difficult session in so many ways. I had mentioned about someone I was praying for and feeling like I was not doing much for her….just praying. I wanted to do more but was not able to. Rutury told me that the Elders say that every prayer, every candle, every ceremony helps. All that they do…all that we do… counts. “They are like votes Nahwi, never doubt this, they count!” This was huge for me! Last July during the Ocean Ceremony commemorating the 4th Anniversary of Jaichima’s passing I realized how ceremonies never go away and that the new Ceremony Energy mixes with all the previous Ceremonies Energies. I imagined it as a swirling mass of loving, healing energy growing like a storm cloud. For some reason I did not realize the energy from prayers and candles were doing the same thing. (Silly me, they are after all…ceremonies) They are massing together like a force that will be used at some point in time. Or perhaps it is always being used. A vote…think about that…a vote given in prayer, in ceremony, by action of lighting a candle for someone , by placing a stone in a place as an honoring or in gratitude…all of it counts…it does help…it is all so much stronger than I had realized. I take great joy in this because we can change things by putting the right intention into our prayers and ceremonies. Just as we do when we cast our “vote”!
